What is DATA2010?
DATA2010 is an interactive database system developed by staff of the Division of Health Promotion Statistics at the National Center for Health Statistics, and contains the most recent monitoring data for tracking Healthy People 2010.  Data are included for all the objectives and subgroups identified in the Healthy People 2010: Objectives for Improving Health.  DATA2010 contains primarily national data.  However, state-based data are provided as available.  All data in DATA2010 are the most recent available and may include revisions or corrections. Therefore, some data may differ from data previously shown.

DATA2010 was updated quarterly until the end of the decade.  Updates include new data years, and possibly revisions to baseline data.

Healthy People 2010 contains 467 objectives that identify specific measures to monitor health in the first decade of the 21st Century.
Each objective includes a statement of intent, a baseline value for the measure to be tracked, and a target to be achieved by the year 2010.  Objectives may include more than one measure.  Each measure is shown separately in the database.  Data for the population-based objectives may be presented separately for select populations, such as racial, gender, educational attainment, or income groups.  The objectives are organized into 28 focus areas, each representing an important public health area.

How to access DATA2010
DATA2010 is accessible through CDC Wonder, an internet system that provides a single point of access to a variety of CDC reports, guidelines, and statistical databases.  The address for DATA2010 is: http://wonder.cdc.gov/data2010.  Users can also reach the DATA2010 home page by following the Go to DATA2010 link above.

Information included in data tables
This interactive system allows users to query a historical database and construct tables.  Tables can be constructed for specific objectives or for objectives identified by focus area, or by select population.  Tables can also be constructed for the Leading Health Indicators.  Each table includes a short title, baseline data, target, any available updates, and data source, for each objective.

Objectives are listed by number, e.g., 01-05 or 27-13, where the first number refers to the focus area and the second refers to the sequential order of the objective within the focus area.  Some objectives include several measures, or sub-objectives.  These sub-objectives are denoted with a lowercase letter following the objective number, e.g., 27-05a, 27-05b, etc.

National data are available for all of the measurable objectives. State data are available for a subset of the measurable objectives. Socio-demographic data tabulated separately by race, Hispanic origin, gender, education or income, and selected other populations are available for all population-based objectives.

If data are not presented in a specific data cell, one of four entries is shown.   DNA indicates that data have been collected but have not yet been analyzed.   DNC indicates that data are not collected by the data system used to monitor the objective.  DSU indicates that data do not meet the criteria for statistical reliability, data quality, or confidentiality and therefore data are suppressed.  NA indicates that the table entry is not applicable for the objective. Any notes about data issues will appear at the end of the table. Following the data issues, the data sources for each of the objectives are listed by objective number.

How to construct data tables
Custom data tables can be created using any of the first five main menu options.  By clicking on one of the options, users can obtain data for a single health objective, for all objectives within a focus area, for all objectives tracked by a particular data system, or for all objectives that target a specific population group (e.g., women, adolescents, or Hispanics).  Users can also obtain data for the measures used to track the 10 Healthy People 2010 Leading Health Indicators.

Advanced Selection Options
Selecting the 'Include advanced selection options in the table' will create a table in a form which allows: data exportation, graph creation, linking to detailed source information, linking to baseline revisions, and linking to objective operational definitions.

Existing Spreadsheets and Technical Information Selecting 'Objective Operational definitions by Focus Area' will provide a list of operational definitions for each Healthy People 2010 measure. Age adjustment groups for Healthy People age-adjusted measures and ICD 10 codes for cause-specific Healthy People mortality objectives are delineated with great detail in DATA2010.  Published data spreadsheets are also available for the Healthy People 2010 Focus Areas and Leading Health Indicators.  Additional information about each function is available in DATA2010 by selecting the More Info link adjacent to the field of interest.
