Scientific Data DocumentationOrofacial Pain Supplement, 1989DSN: CC37.NHIS89.OROFACIAABSTRACT The 1989 Orofacial Pain Data Tape is derived from data collected through the National Health Interview Survey (NHIS). As part of the 1989 NHIS, information about basic health-related activities and about dental health was obtained from a sample of the civilian, noninstitutional population of the United States (116,929 persons). Information on orofacial pain was asked of a subsample of the NHIS sample: each unrelated individual (age 18 and over) and one randomly selected adult (age 18 and over) from each family. This orofacial pain data file consists of 42,370 data records (one for each person who answered the orofacial pain questions). The data record for each of these persons consists of the basic NHIS Person data, the dental health data, and the orofacial pain data in the following order: Tape Locations Description 1-2 Record Type Indicator ('75') 3-200 Data from the 1989 NHIS Person File 201-226 Record Weighting Data 227-335 Blank 336-392 Dental Health Data 393-450 Orofacial Pain Data1RECORD LAYOUT _____________________________________________________________________________ Tape Locations Item No. Frequency Items and Codes _____________________________________________________________________________ 1-2 - RECORD TYPE 42,370 75.
